Payday Blues
Vernon Mercer
The twelve scenes span different days and years. The listening sequence moves from public confidence and humor, through roots and an uncomfortable admission, into affection, neighborhood anger, and family distance. Nina and a younger guitarist challenge Vernon's habits in different ways. The band opens up for a communal dance, then the album closes with Vernon and Raymond catching breakfast.
